An update: The Bluebonnets Portrait Mini Session dates are on April 5, 12, and 14 afternoon. Contact me at for your spot.

I got asked a lot of what to wear for bluebonnets or wildflowers sessions during this time of year. I figured I’d just post the information in here and answer those questions.

Two general rules that I always advise clients who book a bluebonnet session with me are to wear solid colors or clothes with not so busy patterns. Bluebonnets and wildflowers create a ‘pattern’ of their own. By wearing solid colors, you will allow the flowers to be showcased and your face to be the main feature in the portraits. And, another thing is if your kids’ skins are sensitive, please have your children wear long pants or skirts is best!

Now, the fun part! Other than the usual timeless, classic feel for white, you can go with neutrals, including some with really great textures.

For kids, bright colors are great. To look really pop against the bluebonnets, wear colors such as raspberry pinks, reds, yellows, and bright blue (not darker one). Pastel colors are fine as well. But, I would caution you against darker blues, purples, light browns, or greens as there will not as much contrast against the field and the flowers.

Also, if you are doing a family session, I recommend that only one person is wearing outfit with ‘patterns’. In fact, you can pull out complementing colors from those patterns, so everyone will look great but not too ‘matchy-matchy’.
